Why Approved is not the same as paid
Two causes come from SASSA's own documents. The third is plain timing.
A verification is still outstanding. SASSA's You and Your Grant booklet says that if your SRD status shows approved but not paid, you must request a verification link and complete a facial recognition check. Without verification, SASSA said in a November 2025 statement, the application is unsuccessful and no grant is paid.
The bank details have not verified. In the same statement SASSA said that when the banking details do not belong to the applicant, the system will not verify the payment. Once they are verified and confirmed, the grant is received from the next pay run.
The payment has not reached you yet. SRD is paid in batches in the second half of the month, and each approved applicant's date can be set separately. SASSA announces the SRD window month by month: in August 2026 it was 24 to 26 August. The payment dates page has the rules.
A payment can also be held up by a closed or dormant account, an uncollected cash payment or a card problem.
What to do, in this order
- Check your status and any date shown on the official portal. Look for a request to verify.
- Complete the facial check if the portal asks for one. Request the link if you cannot see it.
- Check your bank details. The account must be in your name. If it is not, or you have since closed or changed it, update it. How to change your banking details explains how.
- Wait through the payment window. Don't reapply, and don't give your details to anyone who offers to speed things up.
- Contact SASSA if nothing changes. Call 0800 60 10 11 or email GrantEnquiries@sassa.gov.za, give your ID number only on SASSA's own channels, and say your status is Approved but you have not been paid.
Give it the whole payment window before step 5.
When the bank details are the problem
A bank verification failure has its own status and its own fix. Bank verification failed covers the common causes.
Don't rely on tables that rate banks by how quickly they verify. What is documented is the rule: an active account, in your name, that accepts electronic transfers.
Frequently asked questions
My SASSA status shows Approved but I haven't been paid. What's wrong?
Most often a verification, such as the facial check, is still to be done, or your bank details have not verified. SASSA says the account must be in your name.
How long after Approved does payment usually take?
SASSA has not said. For SRD, payment comes in a pay run late in the month once verification is done. Contact SASSA if the window passes and nothing has arrived.
