SASSA Guides

Some SASSA problems need more than a headline. Each guide takes a single issue, explains what is confirmed and what isn't, and says what to do about it. Unlike a news item, a guide is kept up to date as the situation changes, so it stays worth returning to.

Guides and news: what is the difference?

A news update is short. It says that something happened, in a paragraph or two, and the next update replaces it. It answers "has anything changed?"

A guide is long. It explains the issue in full, cites where each fact comes from, and gets rewritten when the facts move. It answers "walk me through this." If an item is a quick announcement, it belongs in the news section. If it needs explaining, it belongs here.

Here is the difference in practice. A news item might say that SASSA has announced a change to how payments are made. The matching guide explains what the change means, who it affects, what is still unconfirmed and what you should do before your next payment. The news item is finished in a paragraph, and the guide goes on being useful for months.

Both sit beside the standing pages, such as what every SASSA status means and the account tasks, which cover what stays true from month to month.

Where to start

Worried about your money? Read the SRD guide or the one on load-shedding and payments. Just been asked to verify your face or your identity? Start with biometric verification. Not sure a website or a person is genuine? Read how to spot a fake SASSA website before you enter a single detail.

Guides explain. They can't see or change your application, and they aren't official SASSA notices. For anything about your own case, contact SASSA on its own channels.

How guides are kept current

Every guide shows the date its facts were last checked, and cites its sources: SASSA, the Department of Social Development, Parliament or the Government Gazette. When a source changes, the guide changes. Time-sensitive guides are re-checked every month.

New guides are added when an issue comes up that people are asking about. If there is something you want explained, tell us on the About page.

For a quick check of your own result, use the SRD status checker, which takes you to the official portal.
