Meet the team
We are a group of university students. We run Grants Hub to help South Africans understand their grants and the things around them: what each SASSA result means, what to do next, and how to stay clear of scams. We read SASSA's own documents, the government's notices and Parliament's records, and we turn them into plain answers.
Nobody on the team works for SASSA or the government. We write every page so that you can see where a number comes from and the day we checked it.
What Grants Hub is
Grants Hub is an independent information site. We are not SASSA, and this site isn't part of the Department of Social Development or any government body. We can't approve a grant, change a status, release a payment or look up your application. Only SASSA can, and only through its own channels.
What we can do is explain, in plain words: the SRD R370 grant and the seven other SASSA grants, what each status result means, and what to try next. Where you need to enter personal details, we send you to the official portal instead of asking for them ourselves.
We never collect your ID number, phone number or banking details, and we never take payment for anything. Anyone who offers to speed up your grant for a fee is not us and is not SASSA. What the site does keep, and why, is in the privacy policy, written in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
How we check every fact
Rules, amounts and procedures come from four places: sassa.gov.za, dsd.gov.za, pmg.org.za (the Parliamentary Monitoring Group) or the Government Gazette. For things that happened in the news, such as a court hearing, an announced deadline or a payment window, we sometimes cite a named South African outlet like EWN, IOL, GroundUp or The Witness, and the page says it is a news report. We don't cite other grant blogs, including the ones that rank beside this one.
Sites copy each other, and a wrong number travels, which is how people end up calling a scam line. So a figure that only another site publishes stays off our pages until we can check it at the source, and where sources disagree, we say so.
Each page carries a last-checked date. It means every figure on that page was checked against its source on that day. Time-sensitive pages, such as payment dates, are re-checked every month.
Tell us if something is wrong
If something here is wrong, tell us. Send the page address, the sentence you think is wrong and, if you can, the official source that says otherwise. We check it against the primary source. If we were wrong, we fix the page and add a dated note saying what changed.
Email: contact@grantshub.co.za. Other ways to reach SASSA are on the contact page. For anything about your own application, contact SASSA directly, because we can't see it.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the official SASSA website?
No. The official SASSA site is sassa.gov.za, and the SRD portal is srd.sassa.gov.za. Grants Hub is an independent information site and can't see or change any application.
Who writes Grants Hub?
A group of university students who want South Africans to have plain, sourced answers about their grants. The team section above has the rest.
How do you verify the information on this site?
Against sassa.gov.za, dsd.gov.za, pmg.org.za or the Government Gazette, never against another blog. Each page shows the date its figures were last checked.
How can I report an error on this site?
Send the page address, the sentence and, if you have it, the official source. Confirmed errors are fixed and a dated note is added to the page.
