First: which situation are you in?
You are Approved but have no payment date. This is a different problem, and it has its own page. SASSA's You and Your Grant booklet says an approved SRD applicant who is not paid must request a verification link and complete a facial recognition check. Approved but no payment date covers it.
You have a payment date and it has passed. Read on.
Your date hasn't arrived yet. Wait. SASSA pays grants as early as possible each month, spread over three days, with older persons first, then disability, then children's grants. If a date falls on a weekend or public holiday, SASSA says payment takes effect the following working day, according to its 2026/27 schedule. Beneficiaries identified for review are paid on a fourth day. The payment dates page has the rules, and SRD has no single date.
What to check first
- Check your balance. The money may already be there. How to check your SASSA balance explains the ways to do it.
- Check the account is yours. SASSA said that when banking details do not belong to the applicant, the system will not verify the payment.
- Check whether your details changed. A new bank account or a new cellphone number may need to verify first. SASSA's statement says payment follows from the next pay run once the details are verified.
- Check the payment method. A bank account, a Postbank card and a cash collection point work differently. If you use a Postbank card, remember that SAnews reported a 31 August 2026 deadline for switching to the Black Card, after which Gold Cards will no longer function. The gold card guide explains what to do.
- Check whether you were asked to review. SASSA said in July 2026 that beneficiaries identified for review are paid on the fourth payment day and must visit an office. Ignoring a review request can lead to suspension.
Two SASSA rules matter here. The booklet says a grant that is not claimed within 90 days of approval can lapse, and that failing to update personal or financial information can lead to suspension or lapse. If you haven't collected for several months, contact SASSA.
When to escalate
If your payment date has passed and the money hasn't arrived, work through the checks above, then contact SASSA.
Work through these in order:
- Ask your bank whether a payment was received or returned.
- Call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 or email GrantEnquiries@sassa.gov.za. Say the date you were due to be paid, your grant type and what you have already checked.
- Visit the SASSA office where you applied, with your ID and, if you have it, proof of your bank account.
- Call Postbank on 0800 53 54 55 if the grant is paid to a Postbank card.
The contact page lists SASSA's verified channels and the offices page has the addresses. Give your ID number only on SASSA's own channels. Keep a note of who you spoke to and when. SASSA says it never asks for your PIN. Anyone offering to "release" your payment for a fee is a scammer.
