Grants Hub isn't part of SASSA. This calculator never asks for your ID number, a grant reference number or any banking detail.
How this tool works
Each question matches one condition SASSA itself publishes for a grant.
- Who the grant is for You, or a child in your care. Child grants are paid to the caregiver for the child.
- Age The Older Person's Grant starts at 60. SRD and the Disability Grant are for adults aged 18 to 59.
- Disability or illness Whether it stops you working, or whether a child needs permanent care because of a disability. Both lead to a medical assessment.
- Military service The War Veterans Grant is for people who served in the Second World War or the Korean War.
- Grants you already get Grant-in-Aid can only be paid on top of an Older Person's, Disability or War Veterans Grant.
- A court order A foster child needs a Children's Court order placing them with you.
Income and assets are tested by SASSA at your interview, against limits it updates every April. Every grant except the Foster Child Grant has a means test, so a match here means you are worth applying, not that you are approved.
Understanding your result
Your result lists one or more grants. Each shows the most it pays a month, according to SASSA's 2026/27 announcement, and links to its own page:
- Older Person's Grant, up to R2,400 (R2,420 from age 75)
- Disability Grant, up to R2,400
- War Veterans Grant, R2,420
- Care Dependency Grant, R2,400 for each eligible child
- Foster Child Grant, R1,290 (R1,300 from October)
- Child Support Grant, R580 for each child
- Grant-in-Aid, R580 on top of your main grant
- SRD R370, R370. If your result is SRD, the SRD means test shows how income is counted.
The document checklist lists what to bring for the grant you choose, and all eight grants compared sets them side by side.
Frequently asked questions
How does the SASSA grant eligibility calculator work?
You answer a few questions and it matches them to the conditions SASSA lists for each grant. The result names the grants you may qualify for and links to each one.
Is this an official SASSA tool?
No. It is an independent tool and isn't part of SASSA or the government. It doesn't ask for your ID number or banking details. SASSA decides who qualifies, after its own means test.
What if I qualify for more than one grant?
You can usually hold one grant for yourself. Grant-in-Aid is paid on top of an Older Person's, Disability or War Veterans Grant, and a foster child who is also care dependent can receive two grants together. Grants paid for a child are separate from your own.
