The column follows SASSA's own You and Your Grant booklet. The amounts are the most you can get: the Older Person's, War Veterans and Disability grants are paid on a sliding scale, so more private income can mean less than the full amount.

These amounts started in April 2026. The Older Person's, Disability and Care Dependency grants each went up by R80. Child Support and Grant-in-Aid went up by R20, and Foster Child by R40 with a further R10 to come in October. SRD didn't change. We checked them against SASSA's 2026/27 payment schedule and increases announcement, published on the Department of Social Development site on 20 March 2026, and the 2026/27 Budget summary on the Parliament website. The R2,420 rate for people aged 75 and over comes from the government's old age pension page.

Amounts change every April. If a page elsewhere shows a different figure, check its date first. One of the amounts widely quoted for foster care, R1,180, is out of date.

When each grant is paid

SASSA pays grants as early as possible each month, spread over three days. Older persons are paid first, then people with disabilities, then children's grants, according to the 2026/27 schedule. SRD is paid on its own dates. The month-by-month dates are on the payment dates page.

Not sure which grant you qualify for?

Start with your situation, not the grant names. Most people can find theirs in one line.

  • You are 60 or older: the Older Person's Grant.
  • You are an adult and a health condition stops you working: the Disability Grant.
  • You look after a child: Child Support Grant. If the child is in your care under a court order, Foster Child. If the child has a severe disability, Care Dependency.
  • You are 18 to 59, unemployed and have no income: SRD.
  • You already get an older person's, disability or war veterans grant and need someone to look after you full time: Grant-in-Aid, on top of what you receive.

Several of these overlap, and the income and asset limits differ from grant to grant. The eligibility calculator asks a few questions and shows which grants you might qualify for and roughly how much each pays.

Can you get more than one grant?

Mostly no. For the Older Person's, Disability, War Veterans and SRD grants, SASSA's booklet lists not receiving another social grant for yourself as a condition. You can hold one.

Grant-in-Aid is the exception. It isn't a stand-alone grant, and you can only get it on top of an Older Person's, Disability or War Veterans Grant. A foster child who is also care dependent can receive the Foster Child Grant and the Care Dependency Grant together, according to the same booklet. Grants paid for a child are paid for the child, so someone on their own grant can also receive one for a child in their care.

Frequently asked questions

Which SASSA grant pays the most?

The War Veterans Grant and the Older Person's Grant for people aged 75 and over, both at R2,420 a month. The Older Person's Grant for ages 60 to 74, the Disability Grant and the Care Dependency Grant follow at R2,400.

Can I receive more than one SASSA grant at the same time?

Not for yourself. You can hold one grant, plus Grant-in-Aid if you qualify for it. A foster child who is care dependent can receive two grants together, and a grant paid for a child is separate from your own.

How much is the SASSA grant in 2026?

It depends on the grant, from R370 for SRD to R2,420 for the War Veterans Grant and the over-75 Older Person's Grant. The table above lists all eight.
