What we cover
News items fall into six categories.
- Payment dates Confirmed dates for the monthly grant cycle and changes to them, such as a public holiday moving a payment. The standing rules are on the payment dates page.
- SRD grant Extensions, court cases, verification changes and announcements about what follows March 2027.
- Postbank Card deadlines, replacement sites and payment channel changes.
- Grants Amount changes, new rules and processing announcements for the permanent grants.
- Policy Budget decisions, regulation amendments and proposals, marked as proposals until they are law.
- Fraud Scam warnings and official reports of fake websites and messages.
How a news item is written
Every item follows the same short pattern. It says what happened in the first sentence, gives the source and its date, and adds what it means for you if that is clear. It runs to a few sentences, never a full explainer. If the reader would need to be walked through the change, the item links to a guide instead of growing into one.
Not everything is news. A rule that hasn't changed for months belongs on a standing page such as what every SASSA status means. A rumour isn't news at all until an official source confirms it. If a story is moving fast, such as a court case or a policy proposal, the item says what is confirmed today and what isn't.
Our sourcing policy
We don't publish rumours or unverified WhatsApp forwards. Every news item names its source, and the source has to be one of these:
- an official SASSA statement or notice
- a Government Gazette or a department such as Social Development
- Parliament, or the government's news agency, SAnews
- a named South African news outlet, with the report attributed to it
If a claim is only on another grant website, we leave it out until we can check it at the source. A figure that isn't confirmed doesn't go up as fact. When an item turns out to be wrong, we correct it and add a dated note saying what changed.
News here isn't an official SASSA notice. SASSA says it communicates through its own channels: its website, Facebook page (OfficialSASSA), X account (@OfficialSASSA), Instagram (official_sassa), YouTube (@SASSATV) and a WhatsApp channel on 082 054 0016, according to its booklet. Check anything that affects your money against those.

Frequently asked questions
Is this official SASSA news?
No. This is an independent site that reports what SASSA and the government have announced, with the source named. For official notices, use SASSA's own website and channels.
How do you verify news on this page?
Each item must cite an official SASSA statement, a Government Gazette, a government department or Parliament, SAnews, or a named news outlet. Rumours and unverified forwards aren't published, and a claim found only on another grant site waits until we can check it at the source.
